Want to Party in NYC this October?

Here's Where You Should Go

I’ve been sharing my nightlife extravaganzas and escapades here at Now Frolic for a while now, and our team had a little idea.

It’s time I invited you to join me.

I’ve collected a few upcoming events around NYC during the rest of October, and I’m sharing a few of the raddest with you. Come on out and have some fun, and maybe I’ll see you there!

Where to Jam

October 14

Brennan Wedl + Sub*T + Oldstar

Racket, Chelsea · $$ · Doors 7 PM / Show 8 PM

Sound: indie rock / country-punk / singer-songwriter

There’s something pleasantly scruffy about this bill. Brennan Wedl writes songs that can be tender without becoming precious and ragged without pretending not to know what they’re doing, with Sub*T and Oldstar making this feel less like a singer-songwriter showcase and more like a very good Wednesday night rock show. 18+.

October 15

Gilla Band + PISS

Elsewhere, Bushwick · $$ · 7 PM

Sound: noise rock / post-punk

Gilla Band make the sort of music that sounds like machinery developing anxiety. Ugly, repetitive, physical, and extremely fun when played at the volume it deserves. PISS opens, and tickets start at $25, which is a reasonable amount of money to spend having your nervous system rearranged for the evening.

October 16

Sex Mex + 95 Bulls + Short Porch + Ouster Nash

Main Drag Music, Williamsburg · –$ · Doors 7 PM

Sound: garage rock / punk / rock & roll

Four bands, a record store, and absolutely no indication that anybody involved intends to behave particularly well. Sex Mex and 95 Bulls make this the kind of bill where distortion is doing most of the interior decorating, while Short Porch and Ouster Nash round out a night built for standing too close to an amplifier with a beer in your hand.

October 17

Acid Mothers Temple + Magick Potion + Clone Dust

TV Eye, Ridgewood · $$ · Doors 7 PM / Show 7:30 PM

Sound: psychedelic rock / experimental / heavy psych

Acid Mothers Temple have spent three decades proving that a guitar solo can, under the correct circumstances, become a weather event. Add the heavy late-’60s / early-’70s psych of Magick Potion and Clone Dust, the Tim Dahl and MV Carbon project, and TV Eye becomes a very good place to lose track of linear time for a few hours. $25 advance, 21+.

October 21

Animal Collective performs Feels

Knockdown Center, Maspeth · $$$ · Doors 7 PM / Show 8 PM

Sound: psychedelic pop / experimental

Twenty-one years after Feels, Animal Collective are getting the full band back together and playing the record live. Nostalgia shows can occasionally feel like visiting your old high school, but Feels is strange and alive enough that hearing it stretched across Knockdown Center should be something considerably weirder. It’s one of only a handful of these performances, and their first shows together as a quartet since 2022.

October 29

YHWH Nailgun + Samba Jean-Baptiste + Morgan Garrett

Warsaw, Greenpoint · $$ · 7 PM

Sound: experimental rock / industrial / noise

YHWH Nailgun sound less like a rock band than four people discovering rhythm during an electrical fire. Percussion gets brutal, vocals become another piece of machinery, and everything seems perpetually on the verge of flying apart. Warsaw is exactly the kind of room you want for it: big enough to hurt, small enough that the hurt remains personal. Samba Jean-Baptiste and Morgan Garrett open.

October 30

Guerilla Toss + Ben Katzman’s DeGreaser

Elsewhere Zone One, Bushwick · $$ · 7 PM

Sound: art rock / psych-punk / dance-punk

Halloween weekend does not necessarily require fake blood and a DJ playing “Heads Will Roll.” Guerilla Toss make twitchy, psychedelic art-rock that remembers punk music is allowed to be fun, strange, and danceable at the same time. Ben Katzman’s DeGreaser opens, Zone One keeps the whole thing intimate, and you can be out by 10 or make a catastrophically different decision afterward. $25 before fees, 16+.

Silver Has Beaten Gold Before. It's Doing It Again.

From 1974 to 1987, silver more than doubled gold's returns. After 2008, it beat gold five-fold in three years. Since March 2020, silver is up 402% against gold's 186%. Our research team's free playbook explains why, and how the team would position.
